During operation furnace efficiency gradually drops due to the build up of hardened ash, Alkali, sulphur Metal and molten ash building up on the convection sections and tube sections of the boiler walls and roof. This build up leads to higher fuel costs and reduced throughput between shutdown and can lead to high temperature corrosion and tube rupture.
